Ayurveda and Yoga: Two Pillars of Holistic Well-being
29th Sep 2025 | Author - Dr Gargee Shrimali
Ayurveda, meaning “the science of life”, and Yoga, the practice of that science, are two timeless streams of wisdom flowing from the Vedas. Together, they form the foundation of holistic health—nurturing body, mind, and spirit in harmony.
At Utsav Yoga, we created Ayurkriya because we believe Yoga and Ayurveda are inseparable companions on the path of natural healing. While Yoga originates in the Yajur Veda and focuses on self-discipline through movement, breath, and meditation, Ayurveda arises from the Atharva Veda and emphasizes prevention and healing through balance in lifestyle, diet, and therapies.
Ayurveda works by aligning the tridoshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—while maintaining the health of the dhatus (tissues) and eliminating imbalances in the malas (waste). Yoga, on the other hand, guides the inner world by balancing the trigunas—Satva (clarity), Rajas (restlessness), and Tamas (inertia). Through asanas, pranayama, and meditation, the mind is steadied and restored.
When woven together, Yoga and Ayurveda create a truly transformative system. For instance, excess Vata dosha may manifest as anxiety, stress, or insomnia. Ayurveda prescribes therapies like Sarvanga Abhyanga (full-body massage) or Shirodhara (oil therapy) to soothe the nervous system, while Yoga practices such as restorative asanas and guided meditation bring the mind back to balance.
